Awesome Angel news!

To jump to the end bit first: Angel’s now on half the dose of insulin she started on three weeks ago!!! (also, is a video in this one!) So, my poor vet had a crazy-busy Monday, left early on Tuesday because she was sick, and called me today on her way out the door to go home again still sick. We skipped Angel’s injection last night because we weren’t sure what was going on and figured that was safer. Weird little bit: I had trouble sleeping last night, anxiety was high, in part over Angel, and she was in my…

Overdue Angel update

I can’t believe it’s taken me so long to write this… actually, yes I can, I’ve been feeling horrible thanks to an experiment with a new (to me) antidepressant and it’s been all side effects, no help. So. We did Angel’s second BSL (blood sugar level) reading on the 25th. Normal is 8, pre-treatment was above 24, 4th day of treatment  it was 15.4, one week later it was 11.1. Her appetite is great, her energy levels are back to normal (never all that high). We were due to get a curve, which is four readings, four hours apart, on…

Angel Ups and Downs

Yesterday (Sunday) we checked Angel’s blood sugar for the first time. (She has her own, kitty calico-brayted glucometer – it’s purple. ) Normal for a cat is 8. Angel’s, on her blood work a week and a half ago and our lesson visit Wednesday, was between 24 and 25. Sunday, after three and a half days of insulin and all the Fancy Feast pate she can eat, was at 15.5. Yay! It’s working! We had visible evidence of this, too. While trying out the new mattress Saturday, she started doing playful little head-dives and, for a minute or two, played!…

New mattress!

My dad called me Friday night to see if they could stop by on Saturday because they were going to be in town. Sure, no problem. What I wasn’t expecting was that they had a surprise. I’ve had an antique 3/4 bed, halfway between a single and a double, for as long as I can remember – since I was a kid, anyway. My mom put a huge amount of work into sanding and repainting it. I’m extremely attached to it, and it seems to be the only place I can really sleep properly. It’s soft (no box spring), and…

Angel’s Progress

As of this morning, Angel has had seven injections of insulin and I’ve lost count of how many cans of Fancy Feast pate. We figure less-than-ideal wet food is better than either kibble, which is higher in carbs, or not eating at all, so we’re letting her have as much as she wants. We’re sticking with pates, since they don’t have all the wheat gluten and all that the flaked and chunky and sliced ones do, but she seems fine with that. She’s unthrilled with wet foods that have better quality protein in them, but we’re still trying. A couple…

Angel and Diabetes

It’s been a busy… wow, three months! While doing well over the summer and off all anti-depressant meds, I accidentally founded the site Cheezland, which has been taking up quite a bit of my time since. Trick went to the vet for what I thought was a gum abrasion, which turned out to be no less than three dental neck lesions (cavities) in 3 quarters of his mouth, two of which had broken off – and while I was feeling terrible for not noticing that, we discovered he had a very severe bladder infection he’d probably had for some time,…

Presents from a friend

I’ve been making lots of kitty toys and sending them to friends, and loving the pics and vids of happy kitties. Today, my furkids got a present, from spotstarmom! So, of course, we took pictures.                 Trick, who is less sensitive to catnip than honeysuckle, observed with interest and investigated one. Currently, Cory is wandering around the apartment cheek-rubbing EVERYTHING and purring madly, and both girls are sound asleep. LOL

Sharing

This is Friday night. Since Saturday evening, Angel’s had tummy problems (diarrhea, a bit of vomit), which has gone a bit up and down – and now Cory’s got the runs too. Vet has Angel on antibiotics, since stool sample showed gram-negative bacteria and clostridium, and wants Cory on the same to see if it helps. Both are acting normally, though, eating and drinking and active and all. This is Angel yesterday evening: So, we’ll see what happens. Trick, meanwhile, has a tendency to believe that all the warm spots under reading lamps belong to him whenever he wants them,…

Random Pics

Just a few pictures I caught over the past few days – and one older one that never got uploaded. Ohnoes, Trick is broken! Cory in my fleece shawl (he loves this). The camera coming out annoyed him, but ear-rubs make everything all better!

Cory and Freya – BFF

So. Houdini went to a new foster home back in August, since our kids simply refused to accept him and he was understandably unhappy in a single room no matter how much time I spent with him – which upset ours, that they couldn’t reach me. He has a house and a calico girl his own age to play with and understanding humans, until his forever home finds him. Freya, however, has definitely concluded that this is her home and her family forever. Trick adores her, I’ve lost count how often I’ve seen him washing her ears and head, and…
