Eva and Angel

This is what I posted last night on ICHC, translated from lolspeek: [Leading up to this: Sean was in the kitchen, and I was on the couch watching Eva in her playpen. She fell asleep, and so did I — it’s exhausting waking up every night, you know! Sean realized I was asleep, so he checked back in the living room every few minutes. He had to pull Angel out of the playpen repeatedly because there was nowhere for her to lie down except directly on top of Eva. He finally convinced Angel to lie down against my stomach. She…

Sleep and food, the important things

Kittens grow up so very fast, don’t they? I mean, just look at this picture from today! Just kidding — call it a belated April Fools’. Eva is, however, 10.25 ounces, easily three times the size she was when she came to live with us. The other big news of the day: we’ve been holding Eva out to the adult cats to sniff at every possible opportunity. This morning, Angel not only sniffed her, but gave her one lick, which turned into at least a dozen, washing one side of her face and part of her side. Eva looked confused,…

Eva’s Playpen and Exploration

Well, Eva’s now 8 oz! She has more than doubled her weight in the past twelve days, along with the eyes and ears opening and the increasing strength. She’s still teething, and uninterested in anything we try to help her with. She only likes chewing on us (a potentially bad habit to get into) and on the nipple while she’s eating — and ONLY while there’s milk coming out. Her abdomen feels a little bloated, but she’s peeing, pooping, and burping with no problems, and shows no distress when I (very gently!) palpate, so I’m suspecting it’s a reaction to…

We’re back up!

Hi everyone! I apologize for the blog being down for a while, there was a glitch on the host’s end that has them baffled. They did, however, jump right in to start work on fixing it, and they’re trying to track down what happened so we can keep it from happening again. Unfortunately, our camera died at roughly the same time. We’ll have a new (well, used, but new to us) camera tomorrow, a better one in fact, but we can’t do pictures or video of Eva for you tonight. We do have last night’s, though! Here are the pics,…

Double bill – pics and video, Day 5!

Eva gained another quarter of an ounce, up to 4.25 oz (4.3 oz after she ate!). By my math, that’s the equivalent of a 100 pound person gaining 6.25 pounds in 24 hours. We’re very gradually increasing the amount of milk she gets at each feeding, and after yelling briefly when the milk is gone, she settles right down to sleep when she’s back in her bed. I’d be happier with a little more by way of bowel movements, but she’s urinating at every feeding, her abdomen doesn’t feel distended (except right after a meal! ) and she shows no…

Furry alarm clocks

Yes, I am referring to cats. I mean, it’s dark when the alarm clock goes off, and I am not a natural morning person.  I’m keeping the alarm set because if I revert to my preferred natural schedule of being up until about 2 am and then sleeping until 10 am, I’m going to have an awful time when I go back to school.  Plus, Loki and Sean both need meds on a fairly regular basis, and since there’s no alarm clock created that can wake Sean up (okay, be fair, he’s on heavy pain meds and has sleep apnea…

Wee-hour Reflections on Cats

This is based on various thoughts I was having at three a.m. So.  I’m lying here in a queen sized bed, in the middle of the night.  Beside me is Sean, sound asleep, and as usual, an earthquake probably wouldn’t wake him up. A few minutes ago, Loki jumped up on the bed and started demanding my attention.  He’s been with me virtually all of his 13 years or so, and I can pretty much pet him in my sleep — in fact, I’m told I have — but he was restless as well.  He curled up against my stomach…
