Post-heatwave late update

Um, yeah… sorry if we worried anyone. I was tired enough that I was starting to have trouble focusing properly. There’s a half-finished draft from the 26th (!!) that I seem to have just dropped. It started like this: Are you surprised that Cory demanded water at 5:30 am? If you’ve read the past few posts, you shouldn’t be! I passed back out after the water without offering food, which may have annoyed him. At least, when the alarm went off and I dragged myself out of bed and took him to Jackie, he promptly bolted. I retrieved him, and…

Early start on the noms

An hour and a half before the alarm, Cry announced, loudly and persistently, that he wanted crunchies and he wanted them NAAAOOOWWW! So of course he got them, a full snack container plus a few extra. And a drink. And then I staggered back to bed. When normal breakfast came around, he ate nearly all, had another drink, then enjoyed sunbeams on the bed until it got too crowded with Trick and Freya as well, and he went into his closet nest.

Fussy Bearcat?

At 2:00am, I was woken up from a sound sleep by a rather odd thump. I opened my eyes to find Cory on my desk, my laptop woken up from standby under him, while he investigated the empty kibble containers. My “desk” is a laptop stand with little extra space, and isn’t supposed to be expected to support more than 15 lbs – Cory weighs more than that alone! I dragged myself out of bed to get more snacks for him, and he devoured a full one and most of a second. Then, before I could pass out again completely,…

If I fitz…

I don’t even know where this little white box came from. Boxes can live in this apartment for months, if the cats claim them, until we can’t remember what on earth they were originally from. But, recently, it’s been taken over as Cory’s fave sleepy spot… even though it’s, er, a bit of a tight fit. There’s a much larger box right beside/behind the white one, but it’s less interesting than it used to be (it was a previous fave spot). There are Avon boxes everywhere, which are a perfect kitty size. But somehow, it’s the little white one. I…

Trick and the Dental Surgery Saga

Okay, so… shortly before Catmus, I took all three cats in for overdue vaccinations (it had been about 4 years) – mainly rabies, which is required by law annually here, but I did go along with a FVRCP booster even though I’m unconvinced that it’s necessary after initial shots and there ARE risks. Partly because we’re hoping it will help with Cory’s calicivirus attacks. I probably won’t get Trick vaccinated any more, though. But anyway… The vet, of course, gave them a check-up. Verified that Trick’s odd lumps are harmless fatty lipomas. Noted that the odd little horny growth on…

Warm kitties!

A couple of fairly random pics I just took… Freya loves that leopard thing. It’s a piece of decent-quality fleece the size of a blanket that I picked up for a couple of dollars at a local thrift store, in among the leftover fabrics. She sleeps on it at every opportunity, and when she isn’t, Cory is… although it isn’t quite such good camo for Cory!

Cory the marsupial, part two

These pics are of Cory in the “cradle” position from the YouTube video I linked to in the previous post. He isn’t staying in it all that long; I think he’s still getting used to the idea. However, he doesn’t resist while being tucked inside, and he’s certainly smart enough to have figured out what I’m doing. Once he’s settled securely, he starts to doze off, even if he’s visibly trying not to. He can be startled awake by noise or motion close to him, but then the eyes start to drift closed again. I think it’s helping. He still…

Cory the marsupial bear

So. Angel having crossed the Bridge on Monday (you can see her whole story, with the ending, on this page), we’re all grieving and all having some serious adjustments to make. Trick and Freya are both demanding a bit more attention than normal but are largely okay. Cory, however, is having more trouble. For as long as I can remember, he’s only been willing to cuddle in the bathroom – it might be connected to his repeated sinus issues, my sitting with him and the steam helping, I don’t know – and he summons me there with kitten-cries when he’s…

Angel’s progress plus a photo-bomber

More detail than anyone really wants to know, but some cute pics. Poor Angel’s reaction to the meloxicam has been, to say the least, bad. It’s been almost 48 hours since her third and last dose. I’ll spare you the grim details, but, well… large and extremely fluffy cat with very bad diarrhea means a lot of laundry, a couple of emergency fur-clippings in areas she was unthrilled about, and dropping everything to come running when she uses the litter-box in order to clean it, her, and change her bedding. Cory was not very happy about being unable to reach…

Trick, Gardening

As usual, way behind on updates… Angel’s diabetes, Cory’s allergies kicking back up, the kids alternately sulking about the recurrent wet cold weather and enjoying the sun, the really sweet male black Great Dane/boxer puppy who lives near me and reminds me of the black Dane female I grew up with, life in general. There’s a bunch of pics and a couple of videos still to get posted, too. However, here’s what happened when I tried growing some grass for the purrkids to chew on. Plz note: earlier version of video on YouTube corrupted somehow, no longer playing 3:46 but…
