Tiggs’ Housemates: Cory and Co

For those who don’t know my resident cats, I thought you might like a look; for those who do, I thought you might like new pics of them. Angel, the only female, foster-mom extraordinaire to orphaned babycats Trick-or-Treat, the resident clown and massage-therapist Cory, aka Cory-Bear, who understands nothing but love and friendship and playing Original post blogged on b2evolution.

Morning With Cats

Twenty minutes before the alarm is due to go off, I wake up to find my face being exfoliated vigorously — er, washed with much love and dedication by Angel, who typically sleeps on my pillow. As long as she stays off the sensitive skin right around my eyes and mouth, I can handle that, especially when she’s purring like an earthquake. A moment later, she extends her attentions to my hair, by grabbing amouthful and yanking — ever seen a cat try to pull a knot loose in their fur? She’s a big, powerful girl, who can put a…

Cory and Loki at the Vet

Cory met his vet today, for a check-up and his booster shots. Loki needed his six-month check-up for his asthma and his borderline kidney problems, too. Sean was in a lot of pain so I went alone, with both cats in a single large carrier. Neither one really had any problem with the short taxi ride there. The driver actually recognized Cory and I from one of his school days. We were a little early, but that’s okay; they got Cory’s info from the HS into the system, and we went to the cat side of the waiting area. I…

Before-Bed Playtime

Lots of videos for you! (Four, in fact!) A new toy for Eva (well, new to her): Loki playing… well, the part after I found the dratted camera! He was a lot more hyper before it! The babycats playing more: And more! Original post blogged on b2evolution.

New Camera, and More Exploring

Sorry about the break in the routine. We’re hoping to get back to regular daily updates now! I am, by the way, typing this in the living room with Eva sleeping tucked under my chin, occasionally waking a little to knead at my skin (“making biscuits”) and/or yell for another mouthful of kitten milk, then falling back asleep. We did this last night for a while, too, and she was so excited to be exploring that she wouldn’t settle down for more than a 5-minute nap until we put her back in her kitty-carrier in the bedroom — after two…

Eva’s Second-ever Tuesday night – Video

Video from last night: Things are looking a bit less disheartening today. I gave Loki subcutaneous fluids, which the vet suggested I do but I’ve been putting off for fear of stressing him… only to have him accept it calmly for a few minutes. He didn’t get as much as I’d like, but every bit will help reduce the strain on his kidneys and should make him feel better. A little food at a time, and I think he’ll be all right. Divided responsibilities are tough. Original post blogged on b2evolution.

Quick update

I’m a bit behind, Loki’s had more of my attention tonight, while I’ve been trying to keep him from suffering because of Eva’s presence. Sorry, I never even got back here last night to post the video, I’ll add it below. Eva is now 5.8 oz, continuing her trend of 0.3 to 0.4 oz gain every day. She’s still voraciously hungry at the beginning of each feeding, but is also enjoying the social contact more visibly now. Her eyes are still in the process of opening, and the muscles around them are visibly twitching and moving, trying to get them…

Double bill – pics and video, Day 5!

Eva gained another quarter of an ounce, up to 4.25 oz (4.3 oz after she ate!). By my math, that’s the equivalent of a 100 pound person gaining 6.25 pounds in 24 hours. We’re very gradually increasing the amount of milk she gets at each feeding, and after yelling briefly when the milk is gone, she settles right down to sleep when she’s back in her bed. I’d be happier with a little more by way of bowel movements, but she’s urinating at every feeding, her abdomen doesn’t feel distended (except right after a meal! ) and she shows no…

Loki’s health

Part of this, near the beginning, is probably already in the previous post, but I’m going to try to cover everything. This may be a little long, because of that. If you want just the summary, read the part in the box below. This is really, really not how I wanted to start a year I was hoping would be better than the last two… Loki was diagnosed in May 2007 with borderline elevated kidney values. A change of diet has kept it controlled, with no change in Nov 2007 and Aug 2008. Due to more pronounced weight loss recently,…
